On 22 February 1994 Most Rev. William Curlin, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, D.C., was appointed third Bishop of Charlotte by Bl. Pope John Paul II. He would serve as Ordinary of the Diocese for over eight years until his retirement in late 2002. Bishop Emeritus Curlin, who has remained active in serving the faithful of the Diocese of Charlotte, recently gave the Holy Hour Reflection during the Charlotte Catholic Men's Conference.
