CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF CHARLOTTE HOUSING CORPORATION
Catholic Diocese of Charlotte Housing Corporation PDF Print E-mail

The Catholic Diocese of Charlotte Housing Corporation (CDCHC) is an outreach of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte, and since July of 2004 it has been a ministry funded by contributions made through the annual Diocesan Support Appeal.

Working together with regional advisory committees, groups of dedicated parishioners and clergy, community agencies and consultants, the CDCHC is engaged in the early stages of responding to housing needs within a 46-county area of western North Carolina.

Active steps are being completed to facilitate the development of housing for seniors and individuals with special needs.

Founded in 2001 by the Most Reverend William G. Curlin, third bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte, the CDCHC was created for the purposes of: creating, maintaining, promoting and operating housing facilities and accompanying services for seniors, individuals and families with low incomes, and other vulnerable populations. CDCHC is working with other community agencies to provide housing services and programs which enrich and empower residents; promote their self-direction, personal dignity, and autonomy; and, contribute to the physical, psychological, social and spiritual well-being of the residents and the community-at-large in an environment that recognizes the inherent dignity and self-worth of every human being.

DECEMBER, 2011

The CDCHC has received a second award from HUD of 2 million dollars to build and operate a 13 unit apartment complex in the Steele Creek community on South Tryon in Charlotte. These apartments named in honor of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta will be available for adults with Intellectual and/or physical disabilities who are able to to live independently with coaching and monitoring supports. The management and support services for these residents will be supplied as necessary by our HUD application co-sponsor, the InReach agency, which is a prominent and experienced provider of community support services for Developmentally Disabled citizens in Mecklenburg and surrounding areas. Each resident will only have to pay a third of their income for rent and HUD subsidizes the owner corporation for operational funding. It is anticipated that ground breaking will occur about October, 2012 and occupancy to be available about September, 2013. Please call 704 370 3248 for more information.
